Habits of Successful Salon Owners
How to Make Your Salon a Success
We want all of our salon owners to be a great success, but we understand that sometimes it is hard to build up the habits that breed success. For inspiration we have rounded up 7 habits and tips to help you on your journey to success.
Habits of Successful Salon Owners
- Visualize
- As cheesy as it sounds your first step to success is to makes sure you create a clear vision of your success. You need a clear goal in order to have something to build towards. No one just wakes up to success. You need to visualize what success means to you before you can create actionable steps to get there.
- Strategize
- With your vision in mind its time to make that goal a reality. If you are just starting a salon this is when a Business Plan comes into play. Check out this blog to learn about Building a Business Plan. Once you have the plan in place you can really work on organizing your strategy through priorities and organization.
- Organize
- It may sometimes feel like an uphill battle to stay on top of appointments, marketing, family and friends, but getting organized can help your salon run smoothly and free up time for you. First thing is first, you need to prioritize. If you have a large to do list or tasks, you can break down your priorities into monthly, weekly, and daily items. Breaking down your tasks into routine priorities can be a real game changer. If you have a monthly promo, newsletter, and inventory then you can schedule them well in advance so they don’t get lost in the hustle and bustle. Be realistic. If you have never accomplished a certain task in an hour (say creating a newsletter) then don’t put it in your calendar and give yourself an hour. Work with flex room and that way you can handle each item no sweat and have buffer time for those unexpected pop ups. And don’t be afraid to purge your tasks. Whatever doesn’t work and doesn’t get you results, get rid of it!
- Talk about priorities, you are the biggest priority. You have to make time to take care of yourself. From making sure you get a great breakfast in the morning to the all-important “me” time, you have to focus and schedule time for you. If you let yourself run down, then your clients will notice and your business overall will suffer.
- Let’s talk automation. Why spend your precious time trying to book appointments, send emails, and posting of social media?? Automate and free up your day to focus on clients, education, and you! Schedulicity is one great service (Who happens to be one of our Concierge Service providers.) that let’s your clients book on-line and sends them reminders of their appointments. They also offer a complete CRM, calendar, and email marketing. Later, previously Latergramme, can automate your Instagram posts. Upload your pictures and schedule them out by the week or month and take one item off your list! Basically, anyway you can automate, do it!
- Connect
- Something crucial to any salon and should never be forgotten are the clients. Make sure you are connecting with your clients. If you lose touch with clients take the time to re-connect. A promo email can be a great way to bring a client back, and a hand written note is still a great way to make someone feel important and know that they are being thought of.
- Keep the Ball Rolling
- Once you have the momentum built up it is important to keep it going. It may seem like its time to take a step back, but you want to make sure you don’t lose any of that hard earned success. Be open to change. Once you have built up steam, you always want to think about how you will continue to grow. You have to do a salon inventory of color or lotion and the like so be sure to do a business inventory. Get rid of what doesn’t sell or bring you business and think about creative tools to help you expand.
- Market
- Owning your own salon means you are the brand. It is time to get good at selling you. What are your strengths? Know how to sell your strengths and really capitalize on them. You should have your salon brand, mission, and tagline down so that it best represents these strengths and lets clients know what to expect upon arriving at your salon. When people ask what you do you are so much more than a hairstylist, manicurist, or esthetician and you should be able to give them a quick and “prepared” statement that shows that.
- Know Your Industry
- The people at the top of their industries have one thing in common; they know their industry inside and out. They are constantly educating themselves on the latest developments and techniques. That also means knowing what the competition is doing and what they are offering. If you are not growing it is easy to be left behind and become obsolete.
