How to Move Retail
How do you move retail in your salon?
Do you order product to stock your shelves and then it just sits there? Never fear, Salon Suites of Alabama is here to help. We have compiled a great list of tips to help you move retail in your suite. After all, the more product you sell means the better your bottom line. And happier clients, since they will be using the proper product for the wonderful creation you made for them.
Tips to Move Retail
- Display – First and foremost, the display must be enticing. Companies spend millions in researching and developing the product, but also on the packaging. Don’t do yourself a disservice by not allowing the product to shine. If you have your product lumped into one corner and it has a layer of dust, then your client’s eyes will not be drawn to it. If it is in an area with great lighting and easily accessible, then this is half the battle.
- Education – You must love the products you sell and be knowledgeable on the line versus their competitors. Being up on your product knowledge helps your product stand out from every other product available to your clients in the store. Help them understand why your product is better than the latest trend or product they use now. One great way to gain valuable insight into what product would fit the client best is to think retail at the beginning of the service. After hearing their wishes and concerns you can go ahead and explain the products you will be using that day and why you use them. That way it is not a shock at the end of the service and the client has a connection to the product.
- Signs Don’t Sell – Putting a sign out in front of your retail will not sell it. Retail must be an engaging experience throughout the service. Just having a sign will not elicit a relationship between their great hair or nails and the product you offer.
- Sample – If you do not see the opportunity to close the sell, don’t let them leave empty handed. It can be hard at times for the client to make the connection that the product will help them at home. So often a client will think they can’t recreate the look from the salon so why bother with the product, but help them see what the proper product can do by sending them home with a sample. After a few days using the correct product switching back to their old stuff can be a hard pill to swallow.
