How to Turn Your Social Followers into Clients

It’s everywhere. Social media has changed the way we consume media and discover news and events. People even make a living as Insta-models and social media marketers. So how can you as a salon owner use social media to help not only capture attention but gain clients???? Let’s go over some helpful tips on how to capitalize your following.

Brand = Theme:

First things first, what is your brand? How do you want to present yourself to the world? Do a quick search on yourself and your salon. What comes up? Does anything come up? Do things come up that don’t represent you or your business? Browse other salons digital presence for inspiration and make a game plan for how you want your social media to look or the theme. For instance, I want to come across as fun and professional using white and pink with my logo as a consistent theme. This will get you you headed in the right direction. Be consistent, posting everyday or at least 3-5 times a week and it will help create a presence for your salon.

Engage:

People want to have a personal connection and feel as though their voice is heard. Be sure to engage comments and tags. Engagement ads value to your followers and to you. Algorithms put engagement at the top of how the platforms publish posts to social media.

Portfolio:

How often does an existing client show you a Pinterest or Instagram picture of the look they want for themselves? Wouldn’t it be great if a client found your social media and decided not only do they want a look from your profile, but they want you to do it. Make sure you show off your talents by using social media as your portfolio.

Platforms:

Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter, Periscope, the list goes on and on. It might seem overwhelming with the various social media platforms out there, but don’t drive yourself crazy trying to create content for 7, 8, or 9 different platforms. Select about 3 that work best for you and think how one action can be used across different platforms. For instance, if you are doing a photoshoot then you can use Snapchat, Facebook, and Instagram. Snapchat can give behind the scenes and show a personal side then you can use images and video of the process and finished looks on Facebook and Instagram.

Hashtags:

Love them or hate them hashtags help potential clients find you. You can use popular hastags like #hair #sombre #bangs to gain attention, but don’t forget to use local hashtags. Afterall, that is the point. You want to gain local clientele so be sure to use popular local hashtags so people around you are more likely to find you.

Be sure to use #salonsuitesal and #suitesalbeauty so clients of a nail artist who is looking for a great colorist also can see your amazing balayage or vice versa.

Video:

Video is king. You have probably noticed that traditional advertising are being replaced by video. In stores, shopping online, and watching tv, video ads are everywhere these days. That is with good reason. Between APril 2015 and November 2015 Facebook video views doubled from 4 billion views to 8 billion views. That’s per day folks. 8 billion video views per day! Syndacast predicts 74% of all internet traffic will be video by 2017. You don’t have to be Spielberg to create video. Start with filming your process and film your final product. Have great color and cut? Take your client outside and film and 360 degree of your work or even have them shake their head and do a slow-mo of those gorgeous locks. Most phones have great cameras nowadays and there are multitudes of video editing apps you can use right on your phone.
